This privacy policy describes how EarthBeat (the app and the website earthbeat.asv.pt) collects, uses, and protects your information.
A Note from Marc
All the legal text below exists because the modern web requires it. I find most of it about as exciting to read as you probably do.
Here is what actually matters to me: if you ever have a concern about your data, a question about what EarthBeat collects, or just want to know how something works, reach out directly. I am a real person, not a corporation. I built this app because I care about making Earth's signals accessible to everyone, and I would much rather have a human conversation than hide behind legal text.

What Data Does the EarthBeat App Collect?
The EarthBeat iOS app collects minimal data necessary for its functionality:
- Device token for push notifications (only if you enable notifications)
- Notification preferences (which alerts you want to receive)
- Subscription status (whether you have an active EarthBeat Pro subscription)
The app does not collect your name, email address, location, or any personal health data. The app does not track your activity or create user profiles.
What Data Does This Website Collect?
The earthbeat.asv.pt website uses:
- Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. This collects anonymized usage data including pages visited, time on site, and general geographic region. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Support form submissions (if you use the /support/ contact form): your name, email address, and message text are sent via Resend email service and stored in our email inbox. We use this data only to respond to your inquiry.
This website does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics beyond Google Analytics.
Data Storage and Security
App data (device tokens, preferences) is stored on a server in Germany (Hetzner VPS) using encrypted database connections. The server uses HTTPS with HSTS, and access is restricted to authenticated administrators only.
Schumann resonance and space weather data displayed in the app comes from public scientific sources (Tomsk Space Observing System, NOAA SWPC) and is not personal data.
Third-Party Services
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) for delivering push notifications to iOS devices
- RevenueCat for managing in-app subscriptions
- Google Analytics for website analytics
- Resend for sending support form emails
- Cloudflare for CDN and DNS services
Data Retention
Device tokens and notification preferences are retained as long as you have the app installed and notifications enabled. If you uninstall the app, your device token becomes invalid and is automatically cleaned up.
Support form messages are retained in our email system for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry.
Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Union, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

Children's Privacy
EarthBeat is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users.
